An extensive child porn investigation by Guelph police has resulted in the arrest of a North Bay man.

On March 6 at 6 a.m. North Bay police and the OPP Child Exploitation Unit arrested the 44-year-old at his home.

Local man caught in child porn ring 1“Because the Guelph police are heading this investigation, we are not releasing the identify of the suspect in case it would impeded their on-going investigation,” said North Bay community safety officer Ted Whittle.

“People who are involved in child pornography trade it back and forth and through this project in Guelph, a local man was identified and a warrant for his arrest issued. We really are only a small part of the larger investigation,” Whittle said.

The North Bay man has been charged with accessing child pornography, sexual offenses against a child, distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography.

The investigation has also extended to Sudbury, where police there arrested a 27-year-old man who now faces six charges including luring a child and making sexually explicit material available to a child.

The Northern Ontario arrests come after Guelph police arrested a 34-year-old man on Feb. 11 and charged him with 13 child pornography related offenses. On March 11 they arrested a 23-year-old Guelph man who faces two charges.  Police say these two men were known to the victims.

In total 25 charges have been laid in the case and the investigation is continuing.
